A new gilaf was put on the Kaaba Sharif 2022.

The Holy Kaaba Sharif's gilaf has been altered. Every year, Gilaf is changed during the 9th Zilhaj Hajj, but this year it was not done. The Board of Directors of Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah announced the change of the Kaaba Ghilaf on Saturday. The information comes from Gulf News.

Muharram is the first month of the Hijri calendar year. On the first of the month, the gilaf of the Kaaba Sharif is changed. Kiswa is the Arabic word for the cloth that covers the Kaaba Sharif. This year, 166 craftsmen and artisans took part in the Gilaf change. They removed the old gilaf and replaced it with a new gilaf.

The Kaaba Sharif's door and outer shroud are both made of silk cloth. Gilaf is made in a total of five pieces. Four pieces are attached to the sides, while the fifth piece is attached to the door. The pieces are sewn together. Each Kaaba Sharif garment requires 670 kg of silk and 150 kg of gold and silver thin wire. This gilaf is made of 47 layers of silk fabric. The total surface area is 658 square meters.

Each thana measures one meter in length and 95 cm in width. Together they were stitched. Every year, two (one warning) gills are produced. A handcrafted one takes eight to nine months to complete. The other is made by machine in just one month. Hujraye Nabbi's Ghilaf is also produced at the Umm Jud factory in Madinah. The gilaf's inner screen is seven meters long and four meters wide.

Gold verses are engraved on the entire sheath, belt, and 16 pieces of inner screen. The 16 pieces measure 47 meters in length and 95 cm in width. The gilaf is handed over to a designated servant of the Bani Shayba tribe, the keeper of the keys to the Kaaba Sharif, after it is made in the factory. The gilaf was later installed with everyone's help.
