In the face of a serious economic crisis, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has assembled a new cabinet, defying calls to oust him. This information was reported by the BBC on Monday.

According to the BBC, the 17-member government was sworn in on Monday. Opposition parties, on the other hand, have rejected Gotabaya Rajapaksa's invitation to establish a new government.

According to the BBC, many of the president's relatives were not included in the new cabinet. Despite the fact that they held a key position in the previous cabinet.

Chamal Rajapaksa, the president's eldest son, and Namal Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's son, were both excluded from the new cabinet. Shashendra Rajapaksa, their nephew, is also a member of the family.

Thousands of people around the country went to the streets earlier this month in defiance of the state of emergency and curfew, prompting cabinet ministers to resign, with the exception of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his elder brother, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka is experiencing its greatest economic crisis since its independence in 1948.The main cause is a serious scarcity of foreign currency to cover import costs.

For the past few months, the Sri Lankan government has engaged in a tug of war. The treasury has been crushed by debt.Foreign exchange reserves are at an all-time low. There will be no food if there is no oil. Power outages occur on a regular basis. If there is a half-hour, two hours vanish! Importing to meet energy demand is not a closed-reserve situation! In such a condition, the villagers have reverted to the 1970s and 1980s era of hurricanes, kupibati, and charcoal ironing.

I'm suffering as well! Everything seems out of reach in the world of scarcity! Even in recent times, you must purchase old things at exorbitant prices! Traders in Hatton, Nuwara Eliya region, claim that the price of kerosene lamps and charcoal iron has risen dramatically after nearly 50 years. The cost of a glass chimney has climbed to 1,500 rupees in Sri Lanka. The wood-coal iron machine, however, costs 900 rupees. The need for hurricanes has risen as well. The product is also experiencing a shortage due to a lack of supply on the local market.
