Bangladesh's education system is divided into three levels: basic, secondary, and higher education or university. Primary schools last 5 years, and secondary schools last 7 years - 3 years for juniors, 2 years for secondary, and 2 years for higher secondary. Private schools operate on a self-supporting basis. In Bangladesh, the third stage of education, i.e. university education, lasts for three to five years. Under the government's auspices, education is provided by 36 government and 69 private institutions, as well as associated colleges under the University Grants Commission's auspices. The medium of instruction for students is either Bengali or English.

The Ministry of Education is the state's highest education-related office. It is divided into numerous departments. These departments' activities are carried out through a variety of development projects (education projects and technical projects) .Every child in Bangladesh has the right to free education up to the secondary level, according to Article 17 of the Constitution.

Ten (10) education boards are linked with secondary and higher secondary educational institutions. Three public examinations are held by the boards: Exam for the Junior School Certificate (JSC), Examinations for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC). The term "college" refers to educational institutions at the post-secondary level. Madrasas and English-medium schools are also available. The Madrasa Board of Education and the Board of Foreign Education, respectively, keep track of these. The Technical Education Board was established to oversee the operation of post-secondary vocational training schools.

The National Curriculum and Textbook Board is in charge of developing, approving, and managing curriculum and textbooks for primary, lower secondary, secondary, and upper secondary levels. The Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBANS) was established by the Bangladeshi government to store data on education at all levels.

Bangladesh's government has released an education strategy based on knowledge and experience gathered from several education commissioners established at various times. There are also many non-profit organizations in Bangladesh that offer informal and semi-formal education activities for socially underprivileged children under the auspices of the 'Bureau of Non-Formal Education.
